Patrol Lite vs. Patrol Winter: What's the difference?
While the Patrol Winter is a fleece- and faux fur-lined winter model with a waterproof membrane, the Patrol Lite is a slightly lighter version perfect for spring and autumn. Both Patrol models share the identical sole with grippy tread for optimal grip. The wide toe box and flexibility of the sole support a natural gait.
Edit: Since October 2024, the sole for both Patrol Lite and Patrol Winter has been improved. You can read all about the updates in this blog post.
What are the differences between the two models?
Color options
Edit: The color variant Steel Grey has been discontinued for the Patrol Lite since December 2022 and is completely sold out by now. Since October 2024, two new colorways have been introduced: Gum Black and Gum Brown.
The Patrol Winter is available in the same colors plus the additional color variant Sand. A striking feature of the Patrol Winter colorways is the contrasting collar.
Edit: Since September 2023, the Patrol Winter is available in two additional color variants, Chestnut Brown and Dark Olive. Since October 2024, Patrol Winter is additionally available in Gum Sand, which comes with a contrasting dark brown collar. The Dark Olive, Sand, and Steel Grey colorways have been discontinued and will no longer be available once the last pairs are sold.
Upper material
Both Patrol models are made of high-quality, water-repellent faux leather and are 100% vegan. If you compare the Patrol Lite’s upper with the Patrol Winter, you'll notice that the Patrol Lite faux leather is finer in texture and softer than that of our Winter model. Especially in the "All Black" color variant, it is noticeable that the Patrol Lite upper material also appears more matte.
Edit: Since October 2024, the All Black and Gum Black Patrol Lite boots now share the same glossy finish as the Patrol Winter. However, the Patrol Lite retains its signature breathability.
Inner lining
For the Patrol Lite, the soft faux leather is also used for the inside of the shaft, giving the boot a premium look. The inner lining is made of luxurious microsuede. The Patrol Winter's inner shaft, on the other hand, is lined with faux fur, while the rest of the lining is made of warming fleece.
Laces & Eyelets
The Patrol Lite’s punched eyelets create a sophisticated and sleek look. The monochrome waxed cotton laces are in the same shade as the upper and beautifully complete the Patrol Lite’s urban look. The Patrol Winter's two-tone laces are made of recycled PET, which, along with the metal eyelets for the laces, results in a more outdoorsy look.
Edit: Starting with the Patrol Lite restock in December 2022, the punched eyelets of the Patrol Lite will be 1 mm larger. This allows for easier lacing and unlacing, as the laces now glide more easily through the eyelets. Since October 2024, all Patrol Lite and Patrol Winter styles now feature a convenient back finger loop, making it easier to slip in-and-out of your boots.
Waterproofness
Both faux leather variants are water-repellent, making both Patrol models suitable for wearing in the rain. Both Patrol models also feature a gusseted tongue, which prevents water from entering the boots through the eyelets. However, unlike the Patrol Winter, the Patrol Lite has no additional waterproof membrane. The Patrol Lite without waterproof membrane, therefore, excels with improved breathability. The membrane of Patrol Winter, on the other hand, makes this model 100% waterproof, which is why we can confidently recommend the Patrol Winter for use in snow or puddles.
Edit: Starting with the Patrol Lite restock in December 2022, the tongue of the Patrol Lite is no longer gusseted. This allows for easier entry into the boot and a more comfortable fit, even for voluminous feet.
Insoles
The Patrol Lite comes with a pair of exchangeable insoles made of natural cork. The Patrol Winter, on the other hand, comes with a pair of warming felt insoles.
Same sizing for both Patrol models
The Patrol models run true to size. Most customers wear the same size as in other Feelgrounds models. Please note that you might want to size up if you’d like to wear thicker socks than in your other Feelgrounds models and your other Feelgrounds models are already rather snug fitting.
For exact measurements and our printable size guide PDF, please visit the respective product page or our separate sizing page. Our Patrol models are perfect for feet with medium instep volume. If you have a very flat instep, we recommend an extra insole and/or thick socks.
Same care instructions for both Patrol models
To clean your Patrol boots, remove all loose dirt with a soft shoe brush. If necessary, use a clean, soft shoe brush to apply lukewarm water and a mild cleaning solution. Wipe off any excess product with a damp cloth. After cleaning, or whenever your shoes get wet, ensure they dry in a well-ventilated area at room temperature. Avoid drying near or on a heater, as this may cause the faux leather to become brittle. For long-term storage, keep your boots in a well-ventilated, sun-protected place.
To maintain, protect, and refresh the color of the faux leather, use a faux leather care. Alternatively, you can also use a waterproofing spray (for Patrol Winter, this is not necessary because of the waterproof membrane. The faux leather care is preferable.) To complete the care routine, lightly spritz the inside of your shoes with an odor-neutralizing spray.
Both Patrol models are not machine washable.
