Seaside Twill vs. Seaside Luxe: What's the Difference?

We've added another Seaside model to our barefoot sandal lineup this year: The freshly produced Seaside Luxe is now available in the Feelgrounds online shop – your chance to snag a pair of Seaside sandals for this summer!

In this blog post, we'll introduce the new sandal model, explain what it has in common with our first Seaside model, and how the two differ from each other. Our popular original Seaside barefoot sandal with cotton straps will of course continue to be available. To avoid confusion with our new Seaside Luxe model, we've officially renamed our first sandal model to "Seaside Twill".

While the Seaside Twill is a super casual sandal focused on natural and breathable materials, our new Seaside Luxe style is a slightly more refined version thanks to its faux leather straps.

Both Seaside models feature the same flexible yet durable rubber sole. In both cases, Seaside comes with a natural cork insole for a comfortable feel against your skin. The total sole thickness of just 7 mm lets you feel the ground beneath your feet, while still being thick enough for comfortable wear on asphalt and other hard surfaces. The secure fit on your foot, wide toe box, and flat Zero Drop sole support a natural gait.

What are the differences between the two models?

Color options and sizes

Both barefoot sandal models are unisex and, like all current Feelgrounds shoes, available in sizes EU 35 to EU 49. The Seaside Twill comes in six colors: Biscuit Beige, Burgundy Red, Black, Deep Olive, Dusty Pink, Navy Blue, and Stone Grey. Our new Seaside Luxe model is available in Black, All Black, Metallic Rose, and Sienna.

Strap material

The main difference between the two sandals is the material the straps are made from. Seaside Twill has straps made of natural cotton, while Seaside Luxe features sleeker faux leather straps. Both materials are great – just pick what you like best. While the cotton straps create an overall more casual look, the Seaside Luxe with its faux leather straps works perfectly for dressier occasions too.

Cut

Seaside Luxe comes with the improved cut from the second Seaside Twill production batch (Spring 2022) right from the start. This means that both this year's Seaside Twill pairs and all Seaside Luxe pairs have a slightly larger Velcro area on the heel strap compared to the first Seaside Twill generation (which we launched in Summer 2021). This is especially useful for customers who wear their Seaside with a tightly adjusted heel strap. We've also given Seaside Luxe another update: The strap section that extends past the small rivet over the toe post is shorter on the Seaside Luxe, making for an even more comfortable fit. All future Seaside Twill generations (from 2023 onwards) will also benefit from this update.

Finding your size

Seaside Luxe runs true to size. If you already own a pair of Seaside Twill, we recommend choosing the same size for Seaside Luxe since the sole has identical proportions.

With sandals, too much room in front of your toes can lead to frequent tripping. That's why we've made the Seaside soles slightly shorter than the soles of our other closed-toe shoe models. Therefore, we recommend the same size you normally wear in your other Feelgrounds for Seaside in most cases. You can find the exact measurements for Seaside sole length and width on the Seaside product pages under "Size Information" or on our dedicated size guide page.

However, choosing your perfect Seaside size doesn't just depend on your foot length and width, but also on your foot volume. Seaside Twill is best suited for feet with medium to low instep volume. Seaside Luxe fits slightly looser in comparison and is therefore perfect for medium instep volume. The straps on both models have an elastic band on the inner instep side to allow a good fit for a variety of foot shapes. For feet with a particularly flat instep, we recommend Seaside Twill.

For customers who fall exactly between two sizes, we recommend choosing your size based on your foot volume. If you have a high-volume foot, go with the larger size. If you have a low-volume foot, choose the smaller size.

This year we've also updated our size guide PDF for Seaside. The printable PDF now includes not just the sole length, but shows the complete outline so you can easily check compatibility in both width and length. The position of the sandal's toe post is also marked on the PDF.

Same care instructions for both Seaside models

You can clean the sandal straps with a soft brush, some water, and a gentle cleaning product. For cleaning the sole, we recommend a soft, dry brush to remove loose dirt. Afterwards, you can apply a thin layer of shoe disinfectant spray to neutralize any odors.

Note: Cork is a natural material and may change color when it comes into contact with moisture. Therefore, discoloration over time, e.g. from sweat, is completely normal. The sandals are not suitable for sports or wearing in water.
